Piraeus, December 18, 2024. At Capital Ship Management Corp., we’re redefining onboard sustainability with Agwa’s revolutionary technology. This innovative solution is transforming the maritime experience by enabling the cultivation of fresh vegetables directly on our vessels.
The sustainable impact of this initiative is important. Annually, it results in savings of 29.72 tons of CO₂ equivalent and 4,709 cubic meters (1.244K gallons) of water per fleet. These efforts are fully aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting responsible consumption, health, and sustainable communities.
Agwa devices are capable of producing up to 30kg of fresh greens annually, including more than 30 varieties of lettuces, herbs, and leafy greens. This addresses the challenges of limited shelf life and the logistical hurdles of remote resupplying, ensuring consistent access to fresh produce, improved health for crew members, and minimized waste.
The system is powered by AI-driven agronomy, pre-seeded capsules, and a mobile app, providing a seamless and autonomous approach to onboard farming. Compact and user-friendly, it is ideally suited for maritime spaces and operates much like a capsule-coffee machine.
This initiative not only enhances the well-being of our crews but also reinforces our commitment to eco-friendly practices.
